From official sources, it is reported that the construction of the Canton-Whampoa Railway is to commence in the month of August. A large quantity of railway material has been purchased. Wooden material is still required to complete the contract. But as things Chinese are so dilatory, it would not do to be too aanguine until work actually begins.
